Oliphants Trail - Kruger National Park
Arriving in the afternoon of the first day at Letaba rest camp, you will meet the 8 other hikers on the trail and an orientation talk with your guides. You will be walking for 2 days with 3 nights sleeping in the bush.
Situated on the banks of the Olifants river this wilderness area is very popular as it offers remote valleys and gorges where the river flows through the Lebombo mountains as well as flat open plains with good game viewing potential.
The river is a big attraction especially as both the Olifants and Letaba rivers join before flowing into Mozambique. These rivers are the focal point of the trail experience as it offers large concentrations of hippo and crocodile.
The day is incomplete without the call of fish eagles, ever present on the rivers. Birding as well as a diverse plant life are a big plus for this popular wilderness trail.
Like all the trails and camps your ablutions are communal with flush toilets and gas geyser showers to wash off the dust and sweat of a hot African day.
Meals are prepared for you over an open fire or gas stove in natural, rustic surroundings while you sit back and enjoy the scenery.
You will need comfortable clothing in neutral colours, comfortable footwear, a camera, binoculars, sunscreen, hat and malaria medication.
